Luke Stewart Has a Rough Night at Brockville Speedway on Saturday Night

After last weekend’s top ten finish at Brockville Speedway, Luke Stewart and his team were ready to get back to business this past Saturday night looking to build on that and gain some momentum as the season progresses. The team also had planned on racing on Friday night at Mohawk International Raceway for the 50 lap Frenchie’s “Chevy Runs Deep” Series opener.

Stewart had hoped to race at Mohawk Raceway on Friday night in Hogansburg, New York for the first round of the Frenchie’s 358 Modified Series and Memorial Cup race, but the rain that began on Thursday lasted well into Friday and the track officials were forced to cancel their program. The team shifted their attention to getting the car set up for the following night at Brockville.

The first few laps of the night started out well for Stewart at Brockville on Saturday night, as he took the lead at the start of his qualifying heat race held the top spot through the first four laps of the eight lap event. Coming around turn three and four to complete lap five, the steering locked up, sending Stewart well off the track. He was able to continue, but at the rear of the field for the restart, but unable to make up the lost track position. He started the feature from 20th and fought the car for the entire 30 lap distance, and brought the car home with an 18th place finish.

“It certainly wasn’t the run that we were hoping for. We just fought the car all night trying to get the handle on it”, says Stewart after the race. “We will continue to work hard and get it figured out:.

This coming weekend, Stewart will return to Mohawk International Raceway for the postponed Memorial Cup/Frenchie’s “Chevy Runs Deep” 358 Modified Series opener, and will be back at Brockville Speedway on Saturday night for another 50 lap feature in the first race of the Ogilvie’s Auto Triple Crown Series.

Luke Stewart’s Strong Start on Opening Night De-Railed By Early Race Incident at Brockville Speedway

Despite the early morning rain and the unseasonably cool temperatures, Luke Stewart and his race team started the 2013 season at Brockville Speedway on Saturday night. This was the first race in their brand new Hig-Fab Chassis, and they were optimistic going into the night’s events.

In the eight lap qualifying heat race, Stewart started from the outside of the front row, and grabbed the lead on lap two and went on to win the preliminary event. He started on the front row again in the 30 lap feature race, but an early incident sent Luke to the rear of the field. Luke rebounded to post a 13th place finish, out of 27 cars that started the race, but the disappointment of having a car capable of much more still remains.

“The car worked really good, especially in the heat race”, says Stewart after the race. “Unfortunately we got caught up in a couple of incidents, and we had to come from the back. We will take it and move up, and hope that next week is better”.

This coming week, Stewart will be at Mohawk International Raceway on Friday night for their 2013 season opener, and will return to Brockville Speedway on Saturday night for round two of the season.
