Luke Stewart 2012 Season in Review; Plenty of Great Moments in First Full Season in 358 Modified Division for Luke Stewart

After making the transition to the 358 Modified division late in the 2011 season, Luke Stewart was ready for his first full campaign in the competitive class in 2012.  He started the season running weekly at Brockville Speedway with mixed results, before changing their Saturday night home halfway through the season to Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park in Lafargeville, New York.

After opening the season at Brockville with top ten finishes in two of the first three events, Stewart struggled over the next couple months to find some consistency.  Their problems continued through early July after a series of crashes and disappointing finishes that were a result of being at the wrong place at the wrong time and frustrations were beginning to mount.  The team made the decision to switch tracks in mid season, which proved to be a great move for Stewart.  He posted top ten finishes in five of the seven events that he entered, including an incredible third place finish in a race where he held the lead for several laps on August 18th.

“We had a good season for being our first full year in the 358 Modified division”, says Stewart.  “We will be working hard over the winter to improve our program and hopefully that will pay off when the season starts next year”.

The team has some big plans for next season, hoping to race two nights a week, and follow the Mr. DIRTcar 358 Modified Series if they can secure enough sponsorship to do so.  What tracks they will end up racing at has yet to be decided.  If you would like to become a marketing partner with Luke Stewart Racing, please contact the team at stewartspeedsupplies@hotmail.com or give them a call at 613-373-6153.

Luke Stewart Posts Best Career Finish With Impressive Third Place Run at Can Am Motorsports Park

Just a few weeks ago, Luke Stewart made a decision to leave their traditionally Saturday night home at Brockville Speedway in favor of Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park in Lafargeville, New York.  It was a tough decision, but when it came down to it, Luke felt like he would be better off at Can Am, racing on a bigger track.  Since making the move, Stewart has posted four top ten finishes in five races, and posted his best career finish this past Saturday night.

Stewart was fast right from the beginning of the night, posting a top five speed in the opening practice session.  He finished a strong third in his qualifying heat race, and started the 25 lap feature from the front row.  When the race started, Luke jumped out to the lead early, and held the top spot for the first eight laps.  Stewart would fall to second, and then to third just before halfway, but still battled for a third place finish.

“It was a great run for us tonight.  We were able to lead a few laps, and run pretty steady all night”, say Stewart after the race.  “We still have some work to do to stay with the top cars, but we are getting there”.

Stewart will be back at Can Am Motorsports Park this coming Saturday night.  He has just a couple events left at Can Am for the 2012 season.

Luke would like to thank all of his sponsors going into the 2012 racing season.  They include Fort Glass, M.A. Barr Service Station Maintenance, RW Electric, McCoy Bus Tours, Penny Blake of Remax Realty Kingston, Southeastern Telecommunication Services, Number One Speed Equipment, Stewart Speed Supplies and Finish Line Web Design.  Also a very special thanks goes out to Wayne and Donna Smith for all of their support.

Luke Stewart Finds Instant Success After Changing Saturday Night Venues; Scores Back to Back Top Ten Finishes After Switch to Can Am

After starting the 2012 season at Brockville Speedway, Luke Stewart and his team decided they needed a change of scenery.  The switched their Saturday night program to Can Am Motorsports Park in Lafargeville, New York and have scored top ten finishes in both weeks since making the change.

Last Saturday night, Luke finished with a respectable 9th place finish, and returned this week, looking to improve on that.  Luke ended the night with a solid performance, crossing the finish line in seventh place.

“I always have enjoyed racing at Can Am.  It is a big track, and there is lots of room here”, says Stewart after the race.  “We were getting a little discouraged earlier in the year, and we felt like we had to make a change, and we decided to come here for the rest of the season”.

In addition to Can Am, Stewart will also run Mohawk International Raceway on occasion throughout the remaining events at the track in 2012.  Stewart is still a rookie to 358 Modified racing, is having a solid year, with five top ten finishes in just 13 events this season.  Over the remaining few weeks of the season, Stewart hopes to make it inside the top five at Can Am, and build finish the year out strong.

Luke Stewart Gets Top Ten Finish at Brockville on Saturday Night; Makes 2012 Debut at Mohawk International Raceway

After racing all season at Brockville Speedway, Luke Stewart added a race to their schedule this weekend, traveling to Mohawk International Raceway in Hogansburg, New York on Friday night.  Stewart was back in action on Saturday for a regular night of racing at Brockville.

For the first time this season, Stewart raced at Mohawk Raceway.  After starting last in his qualifying heat, Stewart advanced to sixth place.  After making some adjustments on the car, Stewart would start the 25 lap main event from 16th place.  With the most important goal of the night being to finish, and gaining valuable experience, Stewart achieved that with a solid 16th place run in a very tough field of cars.

“It would have been nice to finish a little higher, but we are still learning”, says Stewart.  “I have only raced here a couple times with the Sportsman car, so it is definitely different then what I am used to”.

At Brockville on Saturday night, Stewart finished fourth in his qualifying heat race, and lined up for the 30 lap feature in sixth place.  Stewart fell back to 14th early in the race, but battled back to score a tenth place finish.

“We struggled early with this dry slick track, but the second half was much better”, admits Stewart.  “We will keep working away at it, and hopefully we can get this car dialed in for the second half of the season”.

This coming Saturday night, Stewart will return to Brockville Speedway once again.  He is currently the top rookie in the Small Block division, with three top ten finishes, and sits 14th overall in track points.
