After
racing all season at Brockville Speedway, Luke Stewart added a race to their
schedule this weekend, traveling to Mohawk International Raceway in Hogansburg,
New York on Friday night. Stewart was
back in action on Saturday for a regular night of racing at Brockville.
For the
first time this season, Stewart raced at Mohawk Raceway. After starting last in his qualifying heat,
Stewart advanced to sixth place. After
making some adjustments on the car, Stewart would start the 25 lap main event
from 16th place. With the
most important goal of the night being to finish, and gaining valuable
experience, Stewart achieved that with a solid 16th place run in a
very tough field of cars.
“It
would have been nice to finish a little higher, but we are still learning”,
says Stewart. “I have only raced here a
couple times with the Sportsman car, so it is definitely different then what I
am used to”.
At
Brockville on Saturday night, Stewart finished fourth in his qualifying heat
race, and lined up for the 30 lap feature in sixth place. Stewart fell back to 14th early
in the race, but battled back to score a tenth place finish.
“We
struggled early with this dry slick track, but the second half was much
better”, admits Stewart. “We will keep
working away at it, and hopefully we can get this car dialed in for the second
half of the season”.
This
coming Saturday night, Stewart will return to Brockville Speedway once
again. He is currently the top rookie
in the Small Block division, with three top ten finishes, and sits 14th
overall in track points.
Luke would like to thank all of his sponsors going into the
2012 racing season. They include Fort
Glass, M.A. Barr Service Station Maintenance, RW Electric, McCoy Bus Tours,
Penny Blake of Remax Realty Kingston, Southeastern Telecommunication Services,
Number One Speed Equipment, Stewart Speed Supplies and Finish Line Web
Design. Also a very special thanks goes
out to Wayne and Donna Smith for all of their support.
